Psyllium Husk is more likely to be available without any artificial sweeteners whereas in my experience I've only ever taken Ispaghula Husk with Aspartame. I am determined to try to naturally cure my IBS. Does anyone have any good suggestions as far as a diet?

Little details that might help: My IBS tends to be a mixture of really loose bowels and sometimes constipation. I'm 29, naturally in pretty good shape. Been trying to eat better lately, but I really need some giudlines form people that have been there. Also, I think It might be somewhat stress related. Any ideas???

I have the same problem, for years. I tried medications years ago and it didn't help that much. The one thing that has worked regularly for me is increased fiber intake. I used to just try and get it in breakfast cereals, which helped. It would ease the constipation and helped with the loose bowels too. But I would still have intermittant problems, they just weren't as bad.
In January my son was diagnosed with IBS, constipation mostly. He couldn't get enough in his diet. I started using Benefiber twice a day when I put him on it and it has made a big difference. I will still periodically get looser bowel movements and am rarely constipated, but more importantly I do not have the severe pain and cramping that I had before.
I like the Benefiber. It is not a drying as metamucil and it does not thicken and is essentially tasteless.
I wouldn't cleanse. Introducing anything like that into your system, without a doctor's advice, when you are already having problems is not a good idea.

In addition to adding more fiber to your diet, I suggest doing a colon cleanse. Some people don't realize that a poor diet effects there digestive system. By flushing out your colon you will be able to absorb more fiber and other nutrients.
